To many watch enthusiast the name Audemars Piguet has the same resonance as the name
Rolls Royce does to the car enthusiast.
From the very start Audemars Piguet has pursued high quality over high volume.
It has also kept a full detailed register of its watches and serial numbers from the very beginning,
a Audemars Piguet watch can be confirmed as genuine or not from these records.
In 1875 Jules Audemars and Edouard Piguet met, at which time Audemars was making dials and Piguet a finisher.
They started collaborating immediately and in 1882 their trademark was registered.
In 1889 Audemars Piguet & Cie SA was in business with ten employees making simple and complicated
movements for local watch makers and for export to America.
Although Jules Audemars died in 1918 and Piguet the following year, the company remains in the hands of
descendants plus the few original investors in La Vallee de Joux.
